Pulsar for unions
Pulsar gives a union one place for its contacts, email, volunteer events and campaign plan. Set the account up as a labor union and the goals, texting registration and donor notices follow that choice.
Who this fits
- Locals and internationals running organizing drives, contract campaigns or member mobilization.
- Union political programs that also run issue or electoral work.
- Staff who want member and volunteer work in the same place as email and events.
Works today
- Set up as a labor union: At setup you choose labor union as your organization type. Pulsar stores it with your organization and uses it for goals, texting registration and donor notices. You can record your Department of Labor OLMS file number with it.
- Goals count cards, not votes: A union campaign's headline goal is cards signed toward the bargaining unit, not votes to win.
- Contacts and email: Import members and supporters as CSV, segment them, and send email from paid plans with CAN-SPAM unsubscribe handling.
- Volunteer events and shifts: Post events and shifts on ActionGrid. Volunteers sign up there with their own free account and see their shifts in one place.
- Staff roles that keep donor and message records narrow: Organization analysts and members do not read donor profiles, payouts, do-not-contact lists or messaging logs. Owners and admins do.
Rolling out
- Worksite fields you can filter: Add your own contact fields, such as shift, department or building, as text, a list of choices, a number, a date or yes/no. Filter contacts and build audiences on them, and map them from a CSV import.
- Texting registration that starts from your type: The texting setup files a union as a mixed use case for 10DLC carrier registration and does not ask for a Campaign Verify token, which is for political committees.
- Phone banking: Volunteers call from a browser with a script, and results save to the contact.
- Donations with the right notice: On Kyndara donation pages, a gift to a union skips the FEC questions and carries the notice that it is not deductible as a charitable contribution.
Not live yet
- There is no one-to-one assessment scale or per-worker card tracking. The cards goal is a campaign total.
- Petition pages and email-your-official pages are rolling out. They are not live yet.
- Pulsar stores the OLMS file number but does not look it up against Department of Labor records yet.
Which plan
One local running one drive usually fits Grassroots or Momentum. A union running several drives or locals under one organization fits Movement or Coalition, which hold several campaigns.
Questions
- Can our employer see our data?
- No. Each campaign's data is visible only to the people your organization adds to it. Pulsar does not share contact lists between customers.
- Do volunteers need a paid seat?
- No. Volunteers sign up on ActionGrid with their own free account. Team members are the staff who work in Pulsar itself.
- Does Pulsar track one-to-one assessments?
- Not yet. Tags and notes can hold an assessment for now, but there is no built-in 1 to 5 scale or worksite map.
